Downtown SLO was one of ten communities nationwide to receive a grant from Main Street America through the Main Street Resiliency Grant Program, made possible by the Grills Fund for Main Street Revitalization.

San Luis Obispo Museum of Art is holding a family day celebration in conjunction with Wilshire Hospice Central Coast’s Dia de Los Muertos event at Mission Plaza. Materials and guidance will be provided for sugar skull decorating and papel picado crafting. Known as “calavera” (Spanish for “skull”), a sugar skull is typically made from sugar cane and elaborately adorned with vibrant, colored icing. With arts & crafts, dancing, food, performers, and music at the Mission Plaza, it should be a festive occasion for all ages!

Holiday Art StrollCome celebrate the season, Dicken's style at the Historic Baldwin Radio Factory Art Studios. Enjoy local arts and crafts from more than 40 artisans, fine chocolate and caramel, flavorful hot drinks, pictures with Santa and Ebinezer Scrooge, kid's winter craft with The Creative Capsule, live entertainment, outdoor warming stations and an outdoor movie screening of "A Christmas Carol", and horse drawn carriage rides for up to 20 people. Bring the family down for this great event and check out Roots Cafe's new winter yurt. They will also be open for dinner and festive culinary delights. The Fierro Group, Inc. (Rico Brand & Frida Bistro) will hold its 11th annual Día de los Muertos Celebration in the Rico Brand & Frida Bistro Events Warehouse on Friday November 2, 2012 from 6-11PM. All proceeds will benefit the Utah Food Bank.
Cost is $15 or 15 cans of food for adults and $10 or 10 cans of food for children. The celebration will include live music, children’s activities, local and Mexican artisans and vendors, cash bars, valet parking, and delicious Rico Brand food. Everything except beverages is included in the cost of admission.
Día de Los Muertos is a gathering of family and friends to pray for and remember those who have passed away. This is not a day of mourning, but rather a celebration of those who have passed, and the wonderful lives they lived. Last year more than 800 people attended. The event raised more than $20,000 for the Utah Food Bank. This year we are planning to host 1000+ supporters.
