”Look Closer” July 10th thru August 15th, 2026

The exhibit features a diverse collection of carefully rendered depictions of the natural world that are both scientifically accurate and visually striking. Inspired by local talent and the respected certificate program at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), the exhibition displays artwork ranging from monarchs to marine life, and dahlias to dinosaurs. In total, twenty artists have contributed pieces capturing the biodiversity of the Central Coast and beyond.

The participating illustrators bring varied backgrounds to their work. While some entered the field from biology and naturalist backgrounds, others pursued a scientific education after established careers in art and design. Many are recent graduates of the CSUMB program (which was originally developed at UC Santa Cruz), and several now teach there. Their field research spans the globe—one artist currently lives in Germany and has been diving in the Antarctic, while another draws inspiration from the tide pools near Marin County. All share a dedication to exploring oceans, shorelines, and forests, using field books to record and share their unique observations of the environment.

Exhibition Overview
“Post-Wild” explores how contemporary artists depict, interpret, and challenge the concept of nature in the current age. This exhibition of small works seeks to evoke the spirit of the modern era through diverse media, ranging from traditional painting and sculpture to digital art and data visualization. The featured pieces reflect a contemporary perspective on the environment, engaging with critical themes such as biodiversity, urbanization, and human impact.

San Luis Obispo Museum of Art is holding a family day celebration in conjunction with Wilshire Hospice Central Coast’s Dia de Los Muertos event at Mission Plaza. Materials and guidance will be provided for sugar skull decorating and papel picado crafting. Known as “calavera” (Spanish for “skull”), a sugar skull is typically made from sugar cane and elaborately adorned with vibrant, colored icing. With arts & crafts, dancing, food, performers, and music at the Mission Plaza, it should be a festive occasion for all ages!

The Fierro Group, Inc. (Rico Brand & Frida Bistro) will hold its 11th annual Día de los Muertos Celebration in the Rico Brand & Frida Bistro Events Warehouse on Friday November 2, 2012 from 6-11PM. All proceeds will benefit the Utah Food Bank.
Cost is $15 or 15 cans of food for adults and $10 or 10 cans of food for children. The celebration will include live music, children’s activities, local and Mexican artisans and vendors, cash bars, valet parking, and delicious Rico Brand food. Everything except beverages is included in the cost of admission.
Día de Los Muertos is a gathering of family and friends to pray for and remember those who have passed away. This is not a day of mourning, but rather a celebration of those who have passed, and the wonderful lives they lived. Last year more than 800 people attended. The event raised more than $20,000 for the Utah Food Bank. This year we are planning to host 1000+ supporters.
